Although most of the well-experienced golfers and pros use the M3 Fairway Wood due to its great playability and adjustability, the M4 is seen in Dustin Johnson’s golf bag in many tournaments.

This fairway wood is also found by many golfers to be more forgiving than the M1, M2 and M3. The sound and feel also feelt more solid, and the distance is greater.

However, maybe the only drawback that some (not all) golfers see in the M4 is that it doesn’t have many adjustments like the other clubs. Some golfers need this feature. But if you belong to the mid and high handicappers, you won’t really need this feature.

Technology Used

Ni-CO C300 Steel Alloy Face

The head of the TaylorMade M4 Fairway Wood features the same tech as the M3, which is the Ni-CO C300 Steel Alloy Face. But this time, it is built to be thinner.

Inverted Cone Design

The Inverted Cone Design alongside the Ni-CO C300 and larger head helps boost the ball speed upon off center his, which therefore makes the M4 more forgiving.

This is combined with TaylorMade’s Inverted Cone design on the inside of the face to increase ball speed on off centre hits, thus making the M4 fairway a little bit more forgiving thanks to a larger head.

Split Internal Weighting

The Internal Weight Pad in the previous M models was equipped in the center, but for the M4, this technology is moved to the side where the logo and GeoCoustic section are. This improvement helps enhance the club’s forgiveness.

GeoCoustic Technology

The GeoCoustic design is seen on the sole, where TaymorMade’s engineers make use of a geometrical procedure to improve the sound, while strengthening the body.

Long Speed Pocket

The signature Long Speed Pocket is still there, maintaining greater ball speed, particularly on strikes that are low on the M4’s face.

And with this fairway wood’s generous head size, combined with the thinner steel section, it offers the face a delightful contrast for the aid alignment. Additionally, the silver look gives the whole club a calmer look upon the address.

Looks

The black and silver accents of the TaylorMade M4 Fairway Wood bring that traditional and modern look. It has a carbon fiber weave that gives the club’s head a high-tech look, while the red color on the trailing edges gives a solid takeaway pop. All these vivid colors and striking lines make the head look smaller than it actually is.

When you flip the club over, you’ll appreciate how simple it looks. Without the adjustable hosel and weight track of the M3, the M4’s sole looks sleeker and ready to perform. Its Fujikura ATMOS Red shaft complements the whole look of the club.

The M4 Fairway wood also has a noticeably bigger head than the M3. A design that enhances forgiveness upon off center hits — an area where a lot of players struggle.

Since the previous M Fairway Woods lineup are designed smaller, they are harder to hit. Therefore, the M4 makes a great improvement for an average weekend golfer.

Performance

The TaylorMade M4 Fairway Wood has a great ball flight and straight distance. And these two are the best features of the M4.

Spin rate and launch angle are also impressively consistent, making it a highly forgiving club. And these are all attributed to the split weighting and Speed Pocket.

Even though the adjustability features have its merits, the fact that the hosel doesn’t have it allows TaylorMade engineers to lower the center of gravity and redistribute the weight savings. And when off the deck, these are highly advantageous if you’re hitting the M4 Fairway Wood.

Compared to the performance of the M3, the M4 supplies more spin, which, of course, generates more distance. Plenty of high handicap players have difficulty launching their ball high in the air, so this club is really helpful in this area.

In terms of forgiveness, the M4 is more consistent than the previous M models. Even though it’s not as good as the latest M6 series, the performance and features are decent, not to mention cheaper. Off-center hits went straighter too and had a respectable distance in them.

Lastly, the M4’s deeper center of gravity contributes to greater spin and higher levels of ball speed.

Sound & Feel

The M4 sounds like a wooden baseball bat, same as the M3. The will is very precise and will really grab your attention, but not disturbingly. TaylorMade called this feature Geocoustics, which comprises the combination of acoustical engineering and head geometry.

The M4 Fairway Wood has a very stable feel upon each impact. The feedback in your hands is very discreet, but each hit feels very solid. All thanks to the Split Internal Weighting and Long Speed Pocket behind the club’s face.

The sound and feel of the M4 is built to be better because they added a GeoCoustic technology to make the sound better and more pleasing. And although it doesn’t really increase or decrease the performance, it can still boost your confidence, which can highly improve your game too.

Price Point

TaylorMade’s Fairway Woods offers a reasonable price. Quite higher than the previous M models, but lower than the newer versions, of course.

But based on the technology, distance, performance, and quality this club offers, you’ll surely be satisfied with the performance it offers compared to other FW in the market.
