The sweet spot is enormous, the center of gravity is low and back, and the clubs are really effortless to swing.
Sound and Feel
The impact sound of the Callaway Rogue is its least remarkable characteristic. The sound has an average volume, a medium pitch, and the stereotypical metallic "tink."
Like drivers, I dislike very loud fairway metal. I expected the Rogue fairway wood to generate a louder impact sound due to its design. It did not, which was a pleasant surprise to me. There is a clear distinction between the sound and the club's ambiance.
Similar to the Rogue driver in terms of feel, the Rogue fairway wood has a flushed sensation on almost every stroke. It is easy to distinguish between a low shot and a heel or toe shot, but the distinction is subtle.
Initially, the Callaway Rogue seemed quite skinny, but generally it was well-balanced. In terms of looks, the club is absolutely sweltering. It is so hot that you cannot tolerate it. When the ball jumps off the face and explodes into the air, you know you've flushed one. Because of Jailbreak and Face Cup, this feeling expands over the face. On misses, the feedback is less extreme, but it still has a very burning sensation.
Low on the face, it's simple to tell; going toward the heel or toe modifies the sensation just little.
The sound and feel of the Rogue Fairway Wood are just what I'm searching for. Mishits result in a somewhat higher-pitched, tingling sound, but it is neither loud nor unpleasant.
Performance
The Callaway Rogue fairway wood was a game changer for me after only two shots. The first shot was nicely hit, and I saw a ball speed figure that I hadn't seen in a long time. Despite my joy, I dismissed it as little more than a nice first swing.
I was sucked in as the second ball accelerated by three mph. The Rogue FW turns into a driver when you strike the sweet spot in the middle of the face. Better still, the ball speed remains high even when you shift to your heel or toe.
Using a high launch and moderate to low spin, this ball speed is put to good use. With driver-like spin numbers and launch angles as high as 13 degrees, I was hitting pure shots with regularity. A launch angle of around 10 degrees and a spin rate of about 3000 were the ball's characteristics when launched from the bottom groove on those shots.
For those who don't know the language of launch monitor, I'll try to explain it to you in a simple way. The Rogue fairway wood sent shots almost as far as my driver when I made nice contact. My (now ex-) gamer was scorched by the stock Rogue, which had a modified shaft that cost a lot of money. Equally as impressive? In spite of my thin shots, it was able to deliver 200+ yards of carry.
